1. What type of work do you do?
I primarily create logos, print design, and website design in ways that create exciting brands. I also offer services such as consulting and website hosting. Outside of my client work, I am a writer for FreelanceSwitch, run a student freelancing blog StudentsThatFreelance.com, and find me in freelancing books including Freelance Confidential.
2. When and why did you become a freelancer?
I started freelancing in July 2007 and have been freelancing full time since January 2009. The reason behind my freelancing dive is because I always wanted to have my own business, be in control of my own income and hours, and have something to call my own. Now my freelancing is helping me work toward growing in a way that I can hire starting freelancers and student freelancers to help them get on-the-job training when no one else gives them the chance.
3. What do you enjoy most about freelancing?
Obvious things is that I can work from home, set my own pay, and have the flexibility from a work schedule. But the most important thing that I enjoy the most is being able to help my clients beyond creating a design for them. I help them create business models and develop their business.
4. What do you think is the key to success as a freelancer?
Making sure you satisfy your clients. The most important thing about your business is your clients, and you should take the time to make sure they are satisfied and happy about your work. If you consistently have happy clients, then you will succeed as a freelancer.
5. Do you have any advice for new freelancers?
Never give up! I’ve wanted to quit a million times, but I am glad that I stuck to it because now I am seeing my business grow faster than I thought it would. Be patient, learn everything you can, stay motivated and focused, and you will be a great freelancer!
